Friday date night was a bit different this time, with an exciting meal at Tamu in the West Loop.
Tamu, nestled at the corner of Washington and Halsted at the gateway to the West Loop, is a hidden gem. The interior is small and charming, creating an intimate atmosphere. Tamu offers a 10-seat sushi bar, a handful of tables (pun intended), and an 8-seat omakase in a semi-private back room. We started with a few cocktails, which I found to be very reasonably priced for the West Loop—and they were quite good. Tamu certainly does the classic hand rolls well, although some of the more intricate hand rolls didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
My favorites of the hand rolls we ordered: Otoro and Crunchy Spicy Akami
