Week three of my restaurant series is here, and I’m so excited to share more of the spots around Chicago I really enjoy! While I always love the excitement around discovering new restaurants, it's always nice revisiting a place that never disappoints. One of the best things about Chicago is its endless list of staple spots. Here are a few of my favorites:
Diego - West Town
Diego in West Town is easily one of my favorite spots in Chicago. Chef Stephen Sandoval started Sueños, which was a pop-up at Soho House. Sueños had a lot of Baja-inspired seafood dishes, and it was incredible. He shortly opened Diego in West Town, and Diego does a great job of delivering those same Baja-inspired dishes, in a more laidback dining experience. The food is excellent every time. I'm so excited for Diego to open its patio when the weather gets nicer! It's the perfect place for a small group dinner with some friends, or a casual weekend lunch!
Favorite menu items: Tuna Tostada, Ceviche, and the Norteña Taco

La Scarola - Fulton River District
La Scarola is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. La Scarola has been in Chicago since 1987. The food is absolutely fantastic, but what truly makes it special is the atmosphere—it’s exactly what I want from an Italian spot. Every time I'm in there it makes me feel like I'm sitting in my family's kitchen in Sicily, eating a delicious homemade meal. There’s always a line out the door, and for good reason. The portions are generous and truthfully every dish I’ve tried has been great. I don’t have many photos from my dinners at La Scarola, but the one photo I do have perfectly captures the atmosphere! I highly recommend adding it to your list if you haven't been!
Favorite menu items: Pasta e Fagioli, Escarole and Beans, and Penne alla Vodka

Nonna's - West Loop
To know me is to know that I’m absolutely obsessed with Nonna’s sandwiches, and have been for the past three years. While Chicago definitely has no shortage of great sandwich spots, this is my go-to for a hot, satisfying meal in West Loop. The sandwiches are incredibly filling and delicious, and they are always delicious. Their menu features classic Italian favorites, and the spot itself is attached to Formento’s on Randolph. It's a casual, walk-up-and-order place, perfect for grabbing something to go.
Favorite menu items: Sausage, What The?, and Tomato Basil Soup
