I was really excited to read an article that Kumiko was ranked among the Top 50 Best Bars in North America for the fourth consecutive year, ranking #10 out of the 50 for 2025! Chicago had some great placements on this year's list with features of Kumiko, Best Intentions in Logan Square, Bisous in Fulton Market, and Meadowlark in Logan Square.
Kumiko, located in Fulton River District, describes itself on its menus as a "Dining Bar," which is a Japanese way of describing a bar where food and drink are meant to be enjoyed side-by-side. The ambiance of Kumiko is exactly what you would expect for a bar that makes the Top 50 list: elegant, cozy, and very intentional. The bartenders were interested in curating a drink that matched our individual preferences, and give us options from the menu that pushed us a little out of our comfort zone, too. I really liked both drinks I ordered, and I thought the prices were good for the quality and experience you're getting.
Kumiko offers a seasonal tasting menu experience for $180 per person, as well as some shareable dishes on the regular menu. We came to Kumiko after dinner, but I'm very excited to go back to try some of their food dishes.
If you are looking for great date night spot, highly recommend checking out Kumiko for food and drinks, or just for a round of post-dinner drinks.
