Chicago Restaurants on My List to Try This Spring in West Town, Pilsen, & Humboldt Park

Chicago is hitting 70 degrees today, and it finally feels like spring! Like any true foodie, I keep a running list of restaurants I’m really excited to try. Yes, that list keeps growing as I keep checking restaurants off. Here are five spots from that list across three Chicago neighborhoods that I’m especially excited to try this spring:

1. Maxwell's Trading - West Town

Maxwells Trading
A new concept from Underscore Hospitality. Opening Late 2023 in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor | Chicago, IL.

Maxwell's Trading has been on my list for quite some time now, and I'm very excited that I get to try this place soon. Their menu blends American and Asian influences. I've heard great things about it from everyone I know that has gone. The menu changes regularly to incorporate seasonal ingredients. The restaurant has a rooftop garden where they grow produce and their ingredients, and regularly host students to teach them about urban farming and the hospitality industry.

2. Un Amor - West Town

I don’t go to brunch as often as I’d like, so I’m especially excited to have found a new spot in West Town serving up Latin fusion breakfast and brunch. Un Amor has incredible reviews and a menu full of dishes like chilaquiles, breakfast tacos, and steak sandwiches. The atmosphere looks like it has a vibrant atmosphere, and I can already tell picking a dish off the menu is going to be a tough choice.

3. Pizz'Amici - West Town

El Pres reviewed Pizz'Amici while in Chicago and gave them an 8.1 rating! He ordered their tavern-style pizza, which seems to be what they're really well known for, and it looked delicious. The restaurant has a small, but good antipasti menu including dishes like their homemade focaccia, sausage and peppers, and one of my favorite Sicilian dishes, caponata.

Welcome to PIZZ’AMICI, where we’re providing a fresh take on a city classic. Whether you call it “thin crust” or “tavern style”, we can all agree that it’s the preferred style of the true Chicagoan.

4. HaiSous - Pilsen

HaiSous is a Vietnamese restaurant located in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, and is still on my list to try. The menu focuses on traditional Vietnamese dishes, and adds a twist to them. Some of the items I'm excited to try are the pho and bánh mì. The restaurant also seems to have a great selection of cocktails. HaiSous does a $10 happy hour menu Wednesday-Sunday, 4pm-5:30pm.

5. Kai Zan - Humboldt Park

Kai Zan is a sushi spot in Humboldt Park that seems to be a very well loved restaurant by many in the area. Their menu offers a variety of creative rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, and also has a Chef’s Omakase experience. I've debated ordering this for takeout because I've been so eager to try it, but I'm really looking forward to going into the restaurant soon.
