While in Europe, we decided to make a pit stop in Tallinn, Estonia - just an easy one hour flight from Copenhagen. Visiting Tallinn is definitely off the beaten path, but it's a beautiful city definitely worth the visit. We spent two days here and I thought that was the perfect amount of time to walk through the old town area and venture out a little.
For the short time I was there, I thought the food in Tallinn was delicious! Here are some of my favorite spots...
Rataskaevu 16: This was the perfect dinner to kick off our stay in Tallinn. The service was exceptional, and the food definitely lived up to the hype. Rataskaevu takes traditional Estonian flavors and adds a creative twist. We started off with leib—a dense, nutty rye bread that’s an Estonian staple that was warm and tasty. Every dish that followed was just as enjoyable. The restaurant itself is cozy and full of character, making it a memorable spot for an authentic Tallinn experience.
Balti Jaama Turg: Balti Jaama is a bustling market just outside Old Town Tallinn, packed with fresh produce, different food vendors, and lots of vintage shopping. The entire second floor is dedicated to vintage clothing, which was such a fun find. It's the perfect spot to grab a snack, explore, and soak up the local vibe—definitely worth a visit!
Pelmen Kohvik: This casual spot in the heart of Tallinn’s Old Town serves up traditional pierogis! I was on a mission to find them after some locals recommended a few spots around town, and Pelmen was top of the list. Safe to say, we over-ordered and could barely walk out, but I’m so glad we followed the locals’ tip and tried it out.
La Cucina Di Orm Oja: Our waiter at Rataskaevu 16 recommended this spot, so we knew we had to check it out. The place was packed—and for good reason. The ambiance had a cozy, moody vibe, and the food did not disappoint. This restaurant has a sister restaurant close by that is a pizzeria
Värav Coffee and Toast: This small cafe was my favorite cafe we went to in Tallinn! I loved all of the greenery and how cozy it felt on a fall morning. The coffee and matcha were very good and the food tasted incredibly fresh. Highly recommend putting this on your list of cafes if you are visiting Tallinn.
Winkel: We stumbled upon this cave bar while exploring the city and instantly loved it. The atmosphere was fantastic, there was surprisingly plenty of seating, and they even have live music and performances in the back. Definitely a great spot for pre-dinner drinks.
Whisper Sisters: Another fantastic recommendation from our waiter at Rataskaevu 16—Whisper Sisters is a fun speakeasy in Tallinn. Finding the entrance and making your way in was half the adventure, and once inside, the cocktails were just as exciting and very creative
