Miru, which means “view” in Japanese, is a fitting name for this fairly new Chicago spot. I visited shortly after its grand opening, eager to see what it had to offer. As someone who loves Japanese food, I had high hopes going in.
The views at Miru were beautiful, making the name all the more perfect. Located at the top of the St. Regis, where the Chicago River meets Lake Michigan, the space has a chic, tropical vibe that reminded me a lot of Miami. The atmosphere alone made it a memorable spot.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to the setting. I enjoyed the Crispy Whole Snapper and Tempura Rock Shrimp, but most of the other dishes we tried fell short of expectations. That said, I’d love to come back when the weather’s nice to get drinks on the terrace, and give some more dishes on the menu another shot.
