1. Trino - West Loop: Trino in West Loop is a steakhouse inspired by flavors from Northern Mexico, Argentina, and Galicia, a northwestern region of Spain. Trino is the passion project of the team that created Sueños and Diego in West Town, and I couldn't be more excited to try it. Chef Stephen Sandoval did an excellent job with Sueños and Diego, I have high hopes for Trino. The team behind Trino is currently doing an exclusive preview of the restaurant at Soho House Chicago, where they once had their Sueños pop-up. Trino is set to open in late July.

2. Jackman & Co. - Glenview: Jackman & Co. has opened in one of Chicago's Northern Suburb, Glenview, and I am incredibly excited to try it. Jackman & Co. is owned by Ballyhoo Hospitality, the hospitality group that owns restaurants like Gemini and Dennuci's in Chicago, and Pomeroy in Wilmette. Jackman & Co. is a British inspired gastropub and tavern with menu items ranging from Vindaloo Mussels with a spicy coconut and cilantro broth, to Fish and Chips with a dill tartare sauce. Some of the dishes have an Indian influence to them, as many British gastro pubs do, and the menu seems to add a creative, elevated twist to the classic British/Indian pub dishes. Jackman & Co. is currently open with limited reservations.

3. Omakase Box - Logan Square: the owners of Omakase Box have one goal: deliver a luxury omakase experience at an affordable price. The owners want to provide a "mom-and-pop" sushi experience with quality sushi. Most omakase experiences in Chicago can be quite pricey, but Omakase Box in Logan Square will offer a 15-piece omakase menu at the chef’s counter for $98 per person. The chef's counter will seat up to 10 people, still delivering the intimate omakase experience. I love omakase, and I'm excited to see how well the owners will deliver the casual, neighborhood feel while serving omakase. The restaurant is set to open July 30th.

4. bar Berria - Logan Square: Chef Sieger Bayer, who once won the cooking shows “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Chopped," started a dinner series in Logan Square that really captured my attention. The tickets for the dinner series are available for purchase, and the details are released a week before. It seems like they change the menu based on what is in season, and each menu is carefully crafted using local ingredients. The next available experience through bar Berria is Monday, Jul 28, 2025, and it's called Alley Cats in the Garden. Tickets start out at $28, and by the looks of it, there may be some fun drinks and food to be previewed for future menus. They do a great job of capturing your attention with layers of mystery behind what kind of experience you will be getting.

5. Small Cheval - Lincoln Park: Chicago's beloved Small Cheval has opened up another location in the prime area of Lincoln Park, on Halsted and Armitage. I recently drove past the Small Cheval location, and thought it looked great with big open patio, perfect for summer. For those of you that may not be familiar with Small Cheval, it is a retro-style burger restaurant in the city known for its smashburgers. It's a fast-casual take on the famous Au Cheval burger, and it definitely delivers on taste. Small Cheval in Lincoln Park is currently open.
